We know that working on clusters can make significant gains in speech intelligibility, but often they can be hard to teach and even harder for a child to blend together. This bundle featuring /s/, /l/ and /ɹ/ clusters breaks down the complex cluster into smaller, manageable parts so that the child can achieve success. Using multisensory cueing as well as forward and backward chaining, you can try various types of cues to see which ones help your student! These cues can be helpful for children with a range of speech sound disorders, including phonological impairment and Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

There are three different sheets and cues for each /s/, /l/ and /ɹ/:
1. Backward chaining (e.g., key, key, key, ski)
2. Forward chaining (e.g., fffffflake)
3. Flashcards with visual cues
Multisensory Cueing:
We know that children learn differently, and these Cluster Help Sheets give you multiple options for teaching /s/, /l/ and /ɹ/ clusters. Teach your child that they have to use their /b/ sound when they see the bouncing ball visual or a /f/ sound when they see a bunny teeth picture. You might like to tap or trace with your finger to reinforce the continual airflow and need to join the first sound to the rest of the word. This helps the child break down the word into smaller, manageable speech units to help the child to “hear” the individual sounds or syllables within the word.

This is an amazing resource. It is incredibly effective to provide students high frequency practice of L blends. These also make great homework sheets. I value the opportunity to practice one Cluster at a time. I often probe across worksheets (FL, CL, BL…) to see which my students are stimulable for to select which one to practice first. I also find this worksheet doubles as an opportunity to work on phonological awareness skills! This is a really unique and effective set of worksheets and a great value!
