When you need to understand exactly which syllable shapes a student can produce across every English consonant, this simple informal screener gives you the full picture, fast. Useful for highly unintelligible speakers, suspected Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), motor planning deficits, and progress monitoring, it assesses sounds across five syllable contexts: isolation, CV, VC, CVC, and CVCV. Engaging, colorful picture cards make it easy to administer with even your youngest students, and the digital copy means you can use it on a tablet or in print. A valuable addition to any speech assessment toolkit.

I have found this incredibly useful for the little ones on my caseload (2-3) years. There are 3-4 pictures per page so it’s not too overwhelming and the pictures are engaging. This is my go too if I suspect CAS as it allows a good first look at syllable structure without being too time consuming to administer. I’ve used the picture cards for therapy too!

Easy way to test stimulability in all word positions / word shapes. I like this resource for my kids with severe phono errors or apraxia

This product has been super helpful when assessing my students! I recently took a job where the caseload is heavily speech sound disorders. The pictures are engaging. They elicit the child to complete the Oral Motor Section and helps me organize!

I find it really useful tool to use in my assessment sessions to get kids. they engage in the OPE activities in a non invasive way as it’s all fun. The scoring sheets that goes with it helps to easily collate all the information you are gathering in the session.

I love this bundle! It’s so helpful to have both a paper and digital version. The OME cards are super kid friendly and the syllable structure screener is a great tool to add to my speech sound disorder evaluations!

This is such a wonderful product! I have found it is much more than an assessment tool and has been a great addition to my SP toolkit in general! I use it to assess syllable structure capabilities, provide it as home programming following initial assessment to support consonant sounds in isolation (with the option to step up to CV, CVC etc). I have even cropped out the CVCV only words to use with one of my kids with CAS that has breakdown at that level as the pictures are fantastic. Thanks Rebecca!

  14. Callie G. (verified owner)

Great, practical resource to help with stimulability and syllable structure during assessments. I’ll have this laminated and hanging up on my whiteboard as a quick grab resource in no time!

  15. Lindsay B. (verified owner)

I love this resource to use in assessments. It’s a fantastic visual aid to probe sound productions and I love the option to use it digitally too. Thank you

I actually love this!! It takes all the hard work out of checking stimulability. The pictures are appealing and not too ‘babyish’ ( I used it with little ones & all the way up to 9yrs old) and the layout is so intuitive. If you need something quick and easy after a long assessment with the DEAP I absolutely recommend this 100% It gives a fantastic starting point for therapy. I also noticed lots of the children had a sense of success during as there’s at least something they can do/ say clearly (particularly the more severe little ones)
If I might add a quick suggestion ( cos I know Rebecca is always updating things !!) I added ‘teeth’ at the end, for a CVC (TH in WFP) on the very last one!! So happy to recommend another quality SLT designed assessment tool.
