If you child deletes the second consonant sound in a cluster, you may need to work on that smaller word chunk (e.g., “lice”), and THEN try adding the /s/ at the start to make the cluster.

Learning a new sound can be hard! Even though we didn’t practice this sound too much in isolation (I moved onto syllables and words very quickly), I think they were working so hard trying to cue themselves to use the “k” sound, that they kept saying the sound in isolation… then the rest of the word.

Saying it fast helped 👏🏼

Do you see how we had to use visuals to try to help the child HEAR the difference in the sounds by SEEING the difference?

Have you ever worked on or seen this before?

Have you ever had a child do this?
I find holding up the mouth cues to SHOW the child the sound can really help 👏🏼

What are your thoughts about this??

Being a parent to a child with speech sound errors, I am guided by HER and how SHE FEELS about her speech.

I told myself I won’t “make her” come to therapy if she is happy with how she sounds.

Sometimes our students need to “see” what they’re doing with their tongue 👅 and then you can find the right cues that help them with new tongue placement!

Do you relate? Were you told to start an assessment speaking to the parents and getting a case history first?

That doesn’t work for me 🙃

1️⃣ We started with opening the mouth
2️⃣ Accepted a throaty sound and shaped it into a softer sound
3️⃣ Next we cued the child to say it faster 🤗

Has this ever worked for you? Have you elicited a “y” starting with the “ee” vowel?

Who says assessments have to be dry and boring??

The amount of laughter we get imitating these animals as part of our oral motor assessment is soooooo good for rapport building!!

Do you send video clips to parents and carers? I’ve found it can be particularly helpful at the beginning of therapy when the child is still learning about their sounds and we want to reinforce consistent cues that work in our therapy session, in the home environment.

10 reviews for Articulation Carrier Phrase Cards

  1. Natalie Bown (verified owner)

My colleague and I were just talking about carrier phrase resources and she mentioned this one so I bought it today and love it already. I like that I can use it in a variety of ways as cards or as a spinner. It also gives me a bigger variety of phrases to use instead of just ‘I see a’ or ‘I found a’

  2. Angelica Cygan (verified owner)

These carrier phrase cards have been a wonderful addition to my speech sound toolkit. My clients enjoy picking out carrier phrases to use to cycle through their target words with. The cards have made practice at the phrase level much more efficient in getting multiple trials and practicing with multiple phrases. Definitely a must-have for targeting speech sounds!

  3. JaeLee C. (verified owner)

My students loved being able to pick a carrier phrase to practice their words with. I love that it makes the ‘sentence’ simple while still adding variety and increasing the length of their practice.

  4. Kristin T. (verified owner)

These can be used for articulation, MLU and fluency. My students love the spinner portion. I have my older students add to the sentences after they build them. So versatile and so engaging.

  5. Joanne S. (verified owner)

I use this daily, multiple times a day with my groups. I used to use the same carrier phrase over and over again- “I see a….”. It was boring and not helpful for generalization. My students love the spinner, but I usually just pick a carrier phrase from the stack of included phrases. I like to pick one that has another challenging target sound (for example, if they’ve made great progress with /k/ but are still working on another sound, I may pick “I caught a….”) to get extra practice and increase the challenge. Definitely a must-have for articulation therapy!

  6. Jade M. (verified owner)

This has been a helpful resource! It’s hard to come up with carrier phrases on the fly, and this has solved a lot of issues! Thank you.

  7. Aubrey H. (verified owner)

Good variety of carrier phrases. I like that there are various ways to practice them to keep it fun. Helps to not get stuck in the rut of just using “I see ____”

  8. Amy T. (verified owner)

I love these carrier phrases. I used it with artic cards and just randomly flipped a carrier phrase and then and artic card and besides the artic practice we got in some language work by talking about if the phrase made sense or not. Thanks for creating these…I know I will use them often!

  9. Rachel S. (verified owner)

Great visuals, and my students love an excuse to incorporate a spinner. Excellent for practicing all sounds at the phrase level.

  10. Maxine S. (verified owner)

Great resource to grab and use with a variety of reinforcement activities.
