What types of cues did you see us use to get a clear “ch” sound?

1️⃣ the primary cue was a gestural cue - this helped to get a strong, long sound
2️⃣ we also included some verbal feedback about “round lips”

Just another reminder about the importance of layering your cues - and how every child will require different cues!

Find all the cues to elicit the “ch” sound in the Ch & J Sound Handbook 💪🏼

I was sleep deprived, time zone confused and a little overwhelmed at presenting in front of REAL LIFE SLPs for the first time in my career.

I love that the 2024 Bjorem Cruise 🚢 and Jen from @bjoremspeech offered me an opportunity and the right song to just make me feel like I could do this!

Can’t wait for next week!! I’ll be presenting about something I’m passionate about: getting high practice trials in speech therapy for working with SSDs.

You don’t HAVE TO ELICIT A SOUND IN ISOLATION FIRST 😅

Yep, feel that relief! You can carefully screen for possible facilitative contexts, and see if certain vowels or consonants can encourage (or facilitate) a clearer sound!

I’ve updated my vocabulary (part of being a Know Better, Do Better SLP).

The last one (swapping “correct” for “clear”) is a personal choice after reflecting on my own child’s speech journey.

What words have you changed?

#articulation #speechsounddisorders #speechsounds #speechdelay #schoolslp #adventuresinspeechpathology
If you child deletes the second consonant sound in a cluster, you may need to work on that smaller word chunk (e.g., “lice”), and THEN try adding the /s/ at the start to make the cluster.

  1. Karen Abraham (verified owner)

These mouth cues have really stepped my therapy up a level! I keep them beside me on popsicle sticks for EVERY session and almost always grab at least one! The extra details and voicing information really elevate these mouth cues. I’m going to be printing the poster and framing it for my Christmas present!

  2. Debbie O’Brien

This is an absolute MUST have if you are interested in efficient and effective cues for your speech sessions. I love the variety of skin tones given I am fortunate to work in a diverse school district. I have several sets of them laminated, and taped to tongue depressors. One set stays in my clinic, the other in my bag for my outreach kids. I have had kids relate to the skin tone and ask to take them home (“looks like mommy!!!”). Yes!

  3. Kathryn P.

I love the energy and time that went into making sure the lips were the right shape for each sound, and different colours so that all the kids on my caseload are included.
They arent overly cartoony or kid-like either, so I have been able to use these with my adult dysarthria clients and with older kids who still need a visual cue for their sounds.

  4. Jill S.

I love the correct mouth shapes of these mouth models. So many others are so distorted. And the variety of cultures available makes sure that I can use those most valuable to my students.

  5. Karen R.

My students love using these cue cards to help compare their mouth shapes and try to match them in the mirrors.

  6. Lauren W.

I’ve been wanting something like this for a long time – thanks so much for thinking of a variety of skin tones.

  7. Cheryl W.

I cannot say enough good things about these cues. They are so effective in helping my kids find the correct placement. I love that the mouths are multicultural. AISP never disappoints.

  8. Sasha C.

These are amazing cue cards. They are the perfect size and the pictures are clear for helping students understand mouth placement. I’ve got these cut out on cards so they’re easy to grab during sessions. Love the airflow depictions and the different lip colours.
