I’m still on part-time vocal rest over here as I I’m still on part-time vocal rest over here as I come down from the Speech Pathology Australia Conference in Melbourne this year.

I had some of my own pinch-me-moments meeting with SLPs who’s papers I read and assessments I use. Thanks to Katherine Sanchez, Ellie Sugden, Alison Holm, and Sharon Crosbie for taking photos with me 🤗

It was SO LOVELY meeting so many SLPs and students this week. Working as the only SLP in the building, I didn’t realise how starved I’ve been for speechie chatter 😆

Bring on ASHA in New Orleans 2022 and SPA in Hobart for 2023!

(And I’m not talking about my lack of shoe wearing, though that is also a first 🫣)

I’m so excited to bring oodles of laminated materials to the Speech Pathology Australia conference in Melbourne 👏

I’ve got a booth (my first one ever) and I can’t wait to meet some SLPs in real life. Come by and say hi if you’ll be attending this year.

These are probably my favourites - I’ve tweaked a few based on YOUR requests.

❤️ Thanks for always giving me feedback and helping to evolve a material.

Or close ONE eye 😂😂😂 I take a lot of the Or close ONE eye 😂😂😂

I take a lot of therapy videos of myself, and this seems to be my go-to face!

Don’t ask me why, but closing one (or both) eyes AND turning my head seems to really help me block everything out and really HEAR if the sound is correct!

Who’s with me???

I’m definitely a visual SLP! I love to follow f I’m definitely a visual SLP!

I love to follow flowcharts, see diagrams, and have a good old chart to help me make sense of all things speech!

This flowchart is from the Minimal Pairs Handbook and shows what you would say if a child is correct or incorrect when using this approach.

Did you want something similar for the Cycles Handbook (should be out late July?).

Do you have children who still need a little bit o Do you have children who still need a little bit of visual support to help them say their S Clusters?

I’ve included these cues at the top of flash cards to encourage the child to be able to their S Clusters all by themselves!

You’ll find them in my S Cluster Help Sheet packet (or link in the profile).

Don’t forget this tip!! When I was a younger cl Don’t forget this tip!!

When I was a younger clinician, I taught all sounds “in initial position” first.

Now that I’m more comfortable being flexible with elicitation techniques, I’ve seen that many times, using a VC syllable, especially with a carefully chosen vowel to facilitate the consonant, can really help!!

My faves: uck, ack, oosh, ees!

Comment below and let me know what you use 👏

While many children will reduce “st” words to “t” (so stuck is “tuck”), some kids VOICE as well… it’s that impact of coarticulation!

TimeZone differences means that @grahamspeechtherapy is her normal beautiful self ❤️, and I rock the early morning dressing gown look (so professional haha).

This meeting we discussed the “Planning How to Implement Cycles” chapter

- stimulability and cycles
- primary patterns and what to target first
- secondary patterns
- target selection options
- do’s and don’ts for choosing targets for each pattern

Drop a comment and tell us what YOU want out of this chapter! The Cycles Handbook evolves from YOUR questions, so tell us!

Over and over again, I find the traditional articu Over and over again, I find the traditional articulation hierarchy does not “work” for my little ones with articulation errors.

I like mixed positions.

Where possible (and it’s not always possible), I like to see if the child can practice their target sound in a range of positions (like initial, medial, and final) from the get go!

Sometimes I have to probe and get a core set of words, other times we just practice a mixed set from the get go.

❤️ Articulation Squares material for this!
