Description
Have you ever tried minimal pairs therapy for ‘s’ blend cluster reduction (e.g., where ‘snail’ is ‘nail’) and found that your students don’t understand what you are asking them to do and why they have to say both words?
As an SLP who solely treats children with speech sound disorders, we know the importance of combining “research-with-clinical practice”, giving you EVERYTHING you need (and didn’t know that you needed) to effectively implement the minimal pairs approach and make progress week-by-week.
“I have never seen a resource work so well for my students! They LOVE the engaging stories and do much better in practice after exposure to the story. I use this with so many of my students, and I have seen such an improvement in their progress!”
What makes this therapy resource unlike any other is the phonological pattern stories, which explain the student’s pattern in a child-friendly manner that makes sense and “clicks” for them (e.g., “sound buddies” and “no sound buddies”).
DOWNLOAD THIS RESOURCE IF YOU WANT TO:
❶ — Have one resource that contains ALL the minimal steps: familiarization, auditory discrimination tasks and practice using minimal pair contrasts
❷ — Be able to “teach the rule” about cluster reduction using our highly reviewed stories that “click” for students
❸ — Save planning time by referring to our therapy activity ideas to help teach the concept of “sound buddies”
❹ — Have a set of high-quality minimal cards
❺ — Choose between print or digital formats! Our story, familiarization and auditory discrimination tasks give you TWO options!
“I love being able to reference sound buddies with a verbal and visual cue for my students. These resources help them to understand their error and how it impacts their speech, rather than just being words on a page to practice. I can’t get enough of these toolkits!”
⭐ How does the Minimal Pairs Toolkit work?
FIRST Read the child-friendly “My Sound Buddies Story” and complete the hands-on learning activities so that your student “clicks” with the phonological rule
NEXT By using the print or digital version, complete familiarization and auditory discrimination activities so that your students understand and can hear the difference between the pairs.
THEN Use these Sound Buddy and No Sound Buddy concepts as cues as you engage in drill-play games using the beautifully illustrated minimal pairs cards.

This resource is amazing. Using the “Sound Buddies” story has been a game-changer in introducing clusters and even 3-element clusters (this has 3 sound buddies!) while implementing the complexity approach. Having the story to help give my students a visual and then being able to generalize this into our sessions has been so great. The word lists are so helpful in planning sessions and I use the cards in both in-person and virtual sessions. As usual, the pictures are engaging AND inclusive. I use this resource all the time in my sessions and highly recommend it!

I use these minimal pair toolkits every. single. day. The story is a great introduction to the skill and to the language you will be using with the kiddos to describe the sounds. The minimal pair pictures are clear and most of my clients catch on to the words represented easily. I only wish it had final position minimal pairs as well. These make for great activities in session and easy homework to send home. Highly recommend!

Once again, another fabulous toolkit! I love being able to reference sound buddies with a verbal and visual cue for my students. These resources help them to understand their error and how it impacts their speech, rather than just being words on a page to practice. I can’t get enough of these toolkits!
