It’s been interesting straddling both sides of speech therapy:

Being a speech pathologist who only treats speech sounds
AND being a parent of a child with speech difficulties.

It has sure changed how I speak to and train parents, has allowed me to adjust my expectations, and be more compassionate and understanding of how the challenges!

Are you someone on both sides?

Have you experienced this? A cue that works for one student won’t work for another?

Instead of trying to make a cue fit a child, I’m more about being flexible and guided by the child and how they learn!

This means I need to know lots of cues, and match the right ones to each of my kids. Agree… disagree…. Other thoughts??

Comment “master” because you at least need to know how in-depth this course is… and how much you really don’t know about minimal pairs!!!

So, make 2025 the year you really master a phonological intervention 👊🏽💪🏼👌

If I can admit that there was a LOT I didn’t know about the minimal pairs approach… can you?

Combining the evidence with 18 years clinical experience, I want this to be the last PD you’ll ever have to take on this therapy approach.

All it takes is 5-10 minutes to screen for possible facilitative contexts (words that encourage a clear production of our target sound), but this can set you up for INSTANT success!

If you took my free SLP Summit talk, then you saw these screeners in action! Why waster weeks and months with no progress when it doesn’t have to be that way?

We’ve bundled and discounted our THERAPY CHANGING facilitative contexts packets to get faster progress in articulation therapy 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼

Play Based Articulation Sheets – EARLY SOUNDS

$8.00

Looking for less structured, naturalistic ways to work on speech sounds in therapy and for parents at home? We have taken the hard work out of selecting targets for play-based speech intervention, allowing the child to lead the way. These activity ideas focus on early developing sounds. Each page is themed and has a variety of target words – nouns, verbs, and adjectives, all containing the target sound.

Description

Not all children are suitable for “drill-play” therapy activities using articulation cards. These idea-filled sheets featuring early developing sounds can support the SLP to engage in more play-based therapy with a list of words and activities featuring the target sound they are working on.

If you’ve ever struggled to think up of “words on the spot”, these sheets can be an easy reference to help guide, shape, and plan your speech therapy session.

Each page is organized around different language themes:
Verbs – a page full of actions to use in play (e.g., fall, fill, feed, feel, find)
Nouns – a page featuring names, things, and places (e.g., face, feet, photo, food)
Adjectives – a page filled with describing activities (e.g., funny, fast, far)

Each page contains approximately 25-word targets, equaling about 75 target words to use in play for each sound. The word lists also contain the target sound in the initial and final positions.

DOWNLOAD THIS RESOURCE IF YOU WANT TO:
❶ — Target speech sounds in a more naturalistic, play-based environment

❹ — Help set up a naturalistic play setting for you to assess the target sounds in conversation
