Looking for less structured, naturalistic ways to work on speech sounds in therapy and for parents at home? We have taken the hard work out of selecting targets for play-based speech intervention, allowing the child to lead the way. These activity ideas focus on early developing sounds. Each page is themed and has a variety of target words – nouns, verbs, and adjectives, all containing the target sound.
Not all children are suitable for “drill-play” therapy activities using articulation cards. These idea-filled sheets featuring early developing sounds can support the SLP to engage in more play-based therapy with a list of words and activities featuring the target sound they are working on.
If you’ve ever struggled to think up of “words on the spot”, these sheets can be an easy reference to help guide, shape, and plan your speech therapy session.
Each page is organized around different language themes:
Verbs – a page full of actions to use in play (e.g., fall, fill, feed, feel, find)
Nouns – a page featuring names, things, and places (e.g., face, feet, photo, food)
Adjectives – a page filled with describing activities (e.g., funny, fast, far)
Each page contains approximately 25-word targets, equaling about 75 target words to use in play for each sound. The word lists also contain the target sound in the initial and final positions.
DOWNLOAD THIS RESOURCE IF YOU WANT TO:

This is a wonderful resource to share with families. So many great ideas to practice targeted speech words in play and daily activities, which is perfect for the preschoolers I work with. Very easy to follow and well-made! I liked this early-sounds resource so much I ordered the later-developing sounds as well, even though my students typically don’t work on a lot of those sounds yet.
