As an Australian SLP moving to America and working in the schools, I have had to learn a lot of things really fast! With the Common Core State Standards being adopted by most states, many SLPs that I work with have been discussing how we can use our skills to support the curriculum and our students.
One way I have been trialing this are by using Vocabulary Maps.
Vocabulary Word Map K-3: define the word, provide a synonym, provide an antonym, write a sentence using the word and draw a picture of it.

HOW DO YOU MAKE IT CURRICULUM FOCUSED?
I use these maps to support the themed book that my children are reading in class that week. I get a copy of the book from the classroom teacher, along with the assigned ‘vocabulary’ from the unit, and those are the words that we work on. I also give these as homework sheets. So simple, so effective! View all my FREE resources on my Pinterest page for the latest updates if you love freebies.
Common Core Standards Applications
This Vocabulary Map supports the CCSS for Vocabulary and Acquisition Use for Grades K-3: L.K.4, L.K.4.a, L.1.4, L.2.4, L.3.4. The standard extends each year, but is around determining or clarifying the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases and applying the accurately.

So easy for school SLPs! Love it!
There will be more to come! I hope to constantly be updating my therapy/homework sheets to be more curriculum friendly.
